Best for commuting hands down
Waze saves me 15-20 minutes on my daily commute by routing around traffic. The community reports for accidents and road closures are always current. Essential commuter app.
Police reports save my wallet
The community police reporting has saved me from speed traps countless times. Not that I speed but nice to be aware. The real-time community aspect is what makes Waze special.
Routes through weird neighborhoods
Waze sometimes routes me through residential neighborhoods to save 1 minute. Not ideal when Im in a big truck or unfamiliar area. A main roads preference would help.
Road trip essential
For road trips Waze is perfect. Real-time alerts for construction, accidents, and objects on the road make long drives safer. The gas price feature helps find cheap fuel too.
Battery drain is serious
Waze drains my battery at an alarming rate. A 30 minute drive uses about 15% battery. Need to always be plugged in. Google Maps is much more efficient on battery.
Carpool feature is awesome
The Waze Carpool feature matched me with commuters going my direction. Saves gas money and reduces traffic. Great community-driven initiative that works well.
Fun voice packs
Using Morgan Freeman as my navigation voice makes driving more enjoyable. Small touch but the celebrity and custom voice packs add personality to the experience.
Better than Google Maps for driving
For pure driving navigation, Waze beats Google Maps. More aggressive re-routing around traffic, better hazard warnings, and a more driving-focused interface.
Too distracting
The animated map, achievement notifications, and social features are distracting while driving. Should have a simplified mode that just shows directions and critical alerts.
Construction zone alerts are perfect
The construction alerts with lane closure info have been incredibly accurate. Helped me plan around major highway construction that others got stuck in.
Planned drives feature is smart
Setting up planned drives and getting the alert to leave at the optimal time based on traffic predictions is genuinely helpful. Removes the guesswork from departure times.
Parking info at destination
Waze showing parking availability and lot prices at your destination is super useful. Helps you plan where to park before you arrive instead of circling the block.
Community makes it special
The community aspect is what sets Waze apart. Millions of drivers reporting conditions in real-time creates the most up-to-date traffic picture available. Collective intelligence.
Crashes more than Google Maps
The app freezes or crashes once every few weeks, usually at the worst possible time mid-navigation. Google Maps is more stable. Waze needs better reliability.
Best ETA accuracy
Waze ETAs are the most accurate of any navigation app. When it says youll arrive at 3:47, you arrive at 3:47. The traffic prediction algorithm is impressive.
School zone alerts are great
The school zone speed warnings are perfect for parents and anyone driving through school areas. Activates at the right times and keeps you aware.
Saved from a flooded road
Got an alert about a flooded road ahead and rerouted me around it. Other drivers who ignored Waze got stuck. Community reports literally prevented a dangerous situation.
Data usage is heavy
Waze uses significantly more data than Google Maps. On a limited plan this matters. The constant community updates are the culprit but also the value.
HOV lane integration
The ability to specify that you have multiple passengers and get HOV lane routing is great. Saves time during rush hour when you have a full car.
Solid driving companion
Between the navigation, traffic alerts, gas prices, and hazard warnings, Waze is the most complete driving companion available. Every driver should have it.
