Unlimited devices is the killer feature
One subscription covers every device I own plus my family's. No counting connections or choosing which devices to protect. Unlimited connections should be the industry standard.
Best value VPN on the market
Under $2.50/month on the 2-year plan with unlimited devices. Per-device cost is essentially zero. For budget-conscious users who want legit VPN protection, Surfshark wins.
Speed varies wildly by server
Some servers give me 90% of base speed, others drop to 40%. The inconsistency makes it hard to rely on for speed-sensitive tasks. Server selection matters more here than with NordVPN.
CleanWeb blocks most ads
The built-in ad blocker works surprisingly well on both mobile and desktop. Blocks most ads and trackers without a separate browser extension. Nice integrated protection.
MultiHop routes through two countries
Double VPN routing for extra privacy. Choose entry and exit countries for your connection. For sensitive browsing, the additional hop provides meaningful extra anonymity.
Now merged with Nord concerns me
Surfshark merged with Nord Security. Having both major budget and premium VPNs under one corporate umbrella reduces real competition. Hope they stay independent in practice.
Camouflage mode for restrictions
The obfuscation feature makes VPN traffic look like regular HTTPS. Useful in countries or networks that try to block VPN connections. Gets through where basic VPN fails.
Alert feature for breach detection
Surfshark Alert monitors your email for breaches and checks if credit card numbers appear in leaks. Not as comprehensive as dedicated services but a useful bonus feature.
Customer support needs work
Waited 20 minutes for live chat and the agent couldn't resolve my connection issue. Had to email and wait 2 days for a fix. Support quality lags behind NordVPN and ExpressVPN.
Streaming works for most services
Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu work through Surfshark most of the time. Occasionally a server gets blocked but switching to another usually fixes it. Not as reliable as ExpressVPN but good enough.
Whitelister for split tunneling
Choose which apps bypass the VPN. Banking apps that hate VPNs go direct, everything else stays protected. Essential feature and Surfshark implements it cleanly.
GPS spoofing on Android is unique
Surfshark can override your GPS location on Android, not just your IP. For location-based apps that check GPS rather than IP, this extra spoofing layer is genuinely unique.
WireGuard support is good
WireGuard protocol option provides good speeds and modern encryption. The protocol selection is straightforward. Performance with WireGuard is competitive.
Set up my whole family for $3/month
Parents, siblings, everyone's devices on one subscription. No device limits means no awkward conversations about who gets VPN protection. Family VPN for the price of one.
No-logs audit passed
Deloitte audited and confirmed Surfshark's no-logs claim. Independent verification matters for VPN trust. Glad they're pursuing transparency through audits.
Mac app needs optimization
The macOS app uses more battery than NordVPN or ExpressVPN. Running it on battery cuts my MacBook's life noticeably. Resource optimization on Mac needs attention.
Static IP option available
Dedicated static IP addresses are available for an extra cost. For consistent access to services that whitelist IPs, having a static VPN IP is valuable.
Good for basic privacy needs
Surfshark does what most people need from a VPN - hide IP, encrypt traffic, access content. It's not the absolute best at anything but it's good at everything for a low price.
Server network is smaller
3200+ servers versus NordVPN's 5500+. In popular regions it doesn't matter but for less common locations, fewer servers mean fewer options and potentially worse speeds.
Best budget VPN overall
When you factor in unlimited devices and the low price, Surfshark offers the best value in VPNs. It does everything competently for a fraction of ExpressVPN's cost.
