Better fees than Poshmark
10% seller fee is much more reasonable than Poshmarks 20%. For selling items I no longer need its the better platform. App is straightforward and easy to use.
Got scammed by a buyer
Sold a working PS5 and the buyer claimed it was broken, returned a different broken unit, and Mercari sided with them. Lost my console and the money. Devastating.
Sold everything from my move
Was moving and listed furniture, electronics, kitchenware - everything sold within days. Made over $2000. The app made listing items take just minutes each.
Great for video games
Best platform for buying and selling video games and gaming accessories. Prices are consistently lower than GameStop and the selection is huge. App search works well for games.
Payment holds are annoying
After a sale, your money is held for 3 days after delivery. I understand the safety aspect but it makes cash flow difficult if youre an active seller.
Local pickup saves on shipping
The local pickup option is great for furniture and large items. Meet up safely, save on shipping costs, and get your item immediately. Wish more sellers offered it.
Customer service is nonexistent
Had an issue and tried to reach customer service. Got an automated response. Followed up. Another automated response. Took 2 weeks to reach an actual human. Unacceptable.
Listing is super easy
Take photos, add a title and description, set a price, done. Mercari makes listing items the easiest of any platform. Perfect for people who dont want complexity.
Found rare collectibles
Found several rare Pokemon cards and vintage toys at great prices. The collectibles community on Mercari is active and knowledgeable. Better prices than eBay for many items.
Smart pricing is helpful
The suggested pricing based on similar listings is a nice feature. Helps you price competitively without having to research yourself. Saves time and increases sales.
Good variety of items
Unlike Poshmark which is mainly fashion, Mercari has everything - electronics, books, toys, home goods, sports equipment. Its like a virtual garage sale.
Shipping labels are confusing
The shipping system is confusing. Prepaid labels, ship on your own, different carriers - and if you pick wrong youre stuck. Need clearer guidance for new sellers.
Offers make buying fun
The offer system is fair - make an offer, seller accepts or counters. No pressure and the back-and-forth is fun. Feels like a digital flea market negotiation.
Needs better fraud protection
Seen fake luxury items and stolen goods listed. Mercari could do more to verify sellers and authenticate items. The trust and safety features lag behind eBay.
Coupons and promotions are good
Regularly get $5-10 off coupons and free shipping promotions. Makes deals even better. The app notifications for deals are actually useful for once.
Rating system needs work
Buyers who never rate hold up your payment for days. The auto-rating after 3 days helps but wish buyers were more incentivized to rate promptly after receiving items.
Best for textbooks
Saved hundreds buying used textbooks here. Found almost all my books for the semester at a fraction of the bookstore price. Selling them back was easy too.
Good app, growing pains
Mercari is clearly growing fast and the platform has some rough edges. But the core experience is solid and its getting better with each update. Worth watching.
Authenticate feature is welcome
The new authentication service for designer items is a great addition. Gives buyers confidence and sellers a way to prove legitimacy. Should expand to more categories.
Simple and effective
No frills, no social features, just buy and sell. Sometimes thats exactly what you want. Mercari does the basics well and doesnt overcomplicate things.
