Friendlier vibe than Uber
Lyft drivers are consistently friendlier than Uber drivers in my experience. Maybe its the tipping culture or the company culture but the rides feel more pleasant.
Wait times are too long
In my area Lyft has fewer drivers than Uber so waits are 10-20 minutes vs 5-10 for Uber. I prefer Lyft but cant wait that long for most trips.
Cheaper than Uber usually
I compare prices between Uber and Lyft for every ride. Lyft is cheaper about 60% of the time in my area. The savings add up over a month of regular ridesharing.
Women+ Connect is important
The Women+ Connect feature matching women and nonbinary riders with women and nonbinary drivers is so important for safety. A feature Uber should copy immediately.
Bike rentals are convenient
In cities with Lyft bike/scooter rentals, having everything in one app is great. Unlock a bike, ride to the train, then catch a Lyft home. Multimodal transport in one app.
No international support
Uber works in 70+ countries but Lyft is US and Canada only. For travelers this means having both apps. Lyft is my preference domestically but useless abroad.
Lyft Pink is good value
Lyft Pink membership gives 5% off rides, free bike/scooter unlocks, and priority pickups. For regular riders its easily worth the monthly cost.
App crashes more than Uber
The app crashes randomly, especially when loading the ride request screen. Has happened 4-5 times in the past month. Stability needs work.
Round up for charity is nice
The option to round up your fare to donate to charity is a simple but meaningful feature. Its small change that adds up. Nice way to give back painlessly.
Better for drivers too
As both a rider and occasional driver, Lyft treats drivers better. Higher driver pay means happier drivers means better rides. The ecosystem benefits everyone.
Coverage gaps in suburbs
In suburban areas the driver availability drops dramatically. Sometimes no drivers available at all. Lyft is really a city app. Suburbs need better coverage.
Scheduled rides are reliable
Scheduled Lyft rides have been reliable for my early morning airport trips. Driver shows up 5 minutes early every time. Great for important pickups.
Price lock is useful
The price lock feature guaranteeing your price for a set time is helpful during surge periods. Lock the price and take a few minutes to get ready without worrying about increases.
Competing with Uber is tough
Lyft does many things as well or better than Uber but the brand recognition gap is real. Many people just default to Uber without comparing. Lyft deserves more attention.
Healthcare rides are crucial
Lyft partnering with healthcare providers for medical transportation is important work. Reliable rides to medical appointments for people who need them most.
Lost items are hard to recover
Left my phone in a Lyft and the process to get it back was overly complicated. The app should make lost item recovery easier. Eventually got it but it was stressful.
Better company ethics
Choose Lyft over Uber partly for ethical reasons. Lyfts stance on driver treatment, social responsibility, and community impact aligns with my values.
Wait and Save is patient savings
The Wait and Save option for a cheaper ride if youre flexible on pickup time is a smart feature. Saving 20-30% for waiting 5-10 extra minutes is worth it usually.
Ride quality is hit or miss
Some rides are great with clean cars and friendly drivers. Others are uncomfortable with dirty vehicles. The quality inconsistency is the biggest issue.
Good alternative to keep around
Even if Uber is your primary, keep Lyft installed. Sometimes its cheaper, sometimes its faster. Having both gives you the best option for each ride.
