Can't trust them after the breach
The 2022 breach exposed encrypted vaults. Even if they claim encryption protects data, the fact that vaults were stolen is unacceptable. Moved to 1Password and never looking back.
Free tier is basically useless now
They limited free tier to one device type only - desktop OR mobile, not both. That defeats the purpose of a password manager. It's a glorified notepad at this point.
Breach killed my confidence
I used LastPass for 6 years and defended them. After the breach revelations I exported everything and left. Trust once broken in security software cannot be rebuilt.
Still works fine technically
If you ignore the breach history, the app itself functions well. Autofill is reliable, password generation works, and the interface is clean. The problem is ignoring the breach history.
Security company that got hacked twice
A password manager getting breached is like a bank getting robbed and saying "but the safe is strong." The irony is too much. Bitwarden is free and hasn't been compromised. Switch now.
Emergency access is useful
The ability to designate trusted contacts who can request access to your vault after a waiting period is genuinely useful for estate planning. Few competitors offer this.
App is slow and crashes
The iOS app takes forever to load and frequently crashes mid-autofill. For something you use dozens of times a day, performance matters. This app feels neglected.
Decent if you already use it
Migrating away is a hassle so I stay. The day-to-day experience is fine, autofill works, sharing with my spouse works. But I wouldn't recommend starting fresh with LastPass in 2024.
Premium price for broken trust
Charging $3/month for premium after losing user data is bold. At least offer a discount or something to rebuild goodwill. The pricing feels tone-deaf given their track record.
Moved to Bitwarden immediately
After reading the breach details I exported my vault that same day. Bitwarden imported everything perfectly and its free. LastPass had years of my trust and threw it away.
Security dashboard is helpful
The security dashboard showing weak, reused, and breached passwords helps you clean up your credential hygiene. It's a solid feature that competitors also offer now.
Browser extension is inconsistent
Sometimes it fills the right credentials, sometimes it fills the wrong site's info, sometimes it doesn't appear at all. The autofill inconsistency is maddening for daily use.
Was the best, now it's not
LastPass was genuinely the leader 5 years ago. Free tier was generous, the app was solid, and the brand was trusted. All three of those things deteriorated. Sad to see.
Dark web monitoring barely works
The dark web monitoring alerts are vague and not very actionable. It tells you an email was found but provides little context. Feels like a checkbox feature, not a real tool.
Family plan is okay
The family plan for 6 users at $4/month is reasonably priced. Shared folders work for household credentials. If trust weren't an issue this would be a solid family option.
Forced to upgrade from free
I used the free tier for years across all my devices. Then they limited it to one device type. Felt like a bait-and-switch to force paid upgrades. Not cool.
Autofill on Android is decent
When it works, the Android autofill integration is smooth. Recognizes most apps and websites correctly. The problem is the "when it works" qualifier.
How do you breach a password company
This is literally a company whose ENTIRE JOB is keeping passwords safe. And they got breached. Twice. There is no recovering from that level of failure in a security product.
YubiKey support exists
Hardware security key support for MFA is a plus. Using a YubiKey as a second factor adds real security. But you shouldn't need extra security because your vault got stolen.
Used to recommend this to everyone
I was a LastPass evangelist for years. Set up friends and family with it. After the breaches I had to call each one and help them migrate. Embarrassing and time-consuming.
