Best for current TV shows
If you want to watch current season network shows the next day without cable, Hulu is the only option. This alone makes it essential for cord cutters.
Too many ads on basic plan
The ad-supported plan has way too many ads. Sometimes 4 ad breaks per episode with 60-90 seconds each. Pay extra for no ads or suffer through them.
The Bear is incredible
Hulu originals like The Bear, Only Murders in the Building, and The Handmaids Tale rival anything on Netflix or HBO. The original content strategy is working.
Interface needs a redesign
The Hulu interface is cluttered and confusing. Finding content takes too many taps. Content discovery is poor compared to Netflix or Disney+.
Disney+ bundle is the way
Getting Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN+ bundled together is excellent value. Covers kids, adults, and sports all in one subscription package.
Live TV is overpriced
Hulu + Live TV at $70+/month is almost cable pricing. The whole point was to cut the cord and save money. Hulu has become what it sought to replace.
FX on Hulu is excellent
The FX content on Hulu is consistently excellent. Shogun, The Bear, Fargo - FX produces some of the best television and its all on Hulu.
Content comes and goes
Movies and shows frequently disappear from Hulu as licensing deals change. Hard to plan a watchlist when content evaporates unexpectedly.
DVR for Live TV works great
The cloud DVR with Live TV is well implemented. Record shows and watch later without ads if you have the right plan. Good cable replacement feature.
Anime selection is growing
Hulus anime library has expanded significantly. Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer, and many others. Becoming a genuine Crunchyroll alternative for mainstream anime.
App is buggy
The app crashes at least once a week, sometimes mid-episode. Video loading errors are common. The technical reliability lags behind Netflix and Disney+.
Movie selection rotates nicely
The movie library refreshes regularly with a good mix of new releases and classics. Always something new to discover even if favorites leave.
Multiple tiers are confusing
With ads, without ads, live TV, bundles - the pricing tiers are confusing. Simplify the options so I can pick a plan without a spreadsheet.
Reality TV is well covered
For reality TV fans, Hulu has an excellent selection. Current season reality shows plus complete past seasons. The guilty pleasure headquarters.
Profile management is adequate
Multiple profiles with separate watch histories and recommendations work as expected. Kids profiles have appropriate content restrictions.
Streaming quality varies
The video quality fluctuates more than Netflix. Sometimes drops to SD even on fast connections. Buffering issues that competitors dont have.
Great complementary service
Hulu fills the gap that Disney+ and Netflix dont cover - current TV and FX originals. As part of a streaming portfolio its essential.
Ads in "no ads" plan
Even the "no ads" plan has ads on a few shows due to licensing. This should be made more clear before subscribing. Misleading plan name.
Student discount is incredible
The $1.99/month student discount is the best streaming deal available. College students get access to a huge library for basically nothing.
US only is limiting
Hulu is still US-only which limits its appeal and growth. The international expansion needs to happen eventually. Missing a global audience.
