Free with Amazon Prime at least
GrubHub+ being included with Amazon Prime is the only reason I use it. Free delivery on orders over $12 is nice. Otherwise Id be on DoorDash exclusively.
Good for NYC restaurants
In New York, GrubHub still has the best selection of local restaurants. Many places are GrubHub exclusive. If youre in a major city its worth having installed.
Falling behind competitors
DoorDash and Uber Eats have passed GrubHub in selection, features, and reliability. The app feels outdated and the service hasnt kept up. Losing ground fast.
Perks program is decent
The perks loyalty program gives free food items after enough orders. Got a free burrito last month. Its a nice touch that competitors dont really match.
Delivery times are long
Consistently 10-15 minutes past the estimated time. DoorDash and Uber Eats are faster in my area. Patience required with GrubHub deliveries.
Corporate accounts work well
My company uses GrubHub for corporate meals and the enterprise features are solid. Meal stipends, expense tracking, and group orders all work well. Good business product.
Customer service nightmare
Had a completely wrong order delivered. Contacted customer service and was offered a $5 credit on a $35 order. Insulting. Had to escalate multiple times for a full refund.
Pre-ordering is useful
The ability to schedule orders days in advance is useful for planning. Want Friday lunch ready at noon? Order on Wednesday. This feature works reliably.
Pickup option saves big
Using GrubHub for pickup orders saves on delivery fees and tip while still getting the convenience of browsing menus and pre-ordering. The perks still apply too.
Limited suburban coverage
In the suburbs the restaurant selection is maybe 1/3 of what DoorDash offers. GrubHub is very city-centric. If youre not in a metro area, look elsewhere.
Decent but not essential
I keep it installed for the occasional restaurant thats only on GrubHub. Otherwise DoorDash handles 90% of my food delivery needs better.
Catering orders are great
For large catering orders (office events, parties), GrubHub actually handles these better than competitors. The ordering process for large groups is well designed.
App crashes and glitches
The app crashes when loading restaurant pages, the cart sometimes clears itself, and payment processing fails randomly. Technical quality is below competitors.
Photos of food are scarce
Many restaurant listings dont have food photos. Im not ordering something I cant see. Other apps have much better menu photography.
Donation option is thoughtful
The option to donate to Grubhub Community Fund when ordering is a nice touch. Small addition that helps feed people in need. Wish more apps did this.
Inconsistent pricing
The same restaurant charges different prices on GrubHub vs their own website. Sometimes significantly more. Always compare before ordering.
Drivers dont follow instructions
My delivery instructions clearly say to use the side entrance. Every single GrubHub driver goes to the front. The instructions feature might as well not exist.
Average at everything
GrubHub isnt the best at anything specific. Average selection, average delivery, average app. Its fine but nothing compels me to choose it over DoorDash.
Student discount is good
The student GrubHub+ is a solid deal. Free delivery and some perks. For college students ordering delivery regularly its a smart choice. Verification is easy.
Was better before Just Eat merger
GrubHub was better before the Just Eat Takeaway acquisition. Features have stagnated, service has declined. Feels like a company in transition with users caught in the middle.
