Bundled VPN is surprisingly decent
Getting a VPN with your password manager is a nice perk. The Hotspot Shield-powered VPN handles basic browsing well. Not NordVPN level but fine for casual use at coffee shops.
Dark web monitoring actually found my data
Dashlane alerted me that my email appeared in a breach I didn't know about. Changed those passwords immediately. The dark web scanning justified the subscription cost in one alert.
Too expensive for what it is
At $5/month for premium when Bitwarden charges $10/year, Dashlane is a tough sell. The VPN and monitoring are nice but not worth 6x the price of a competitor.
Password changer is genius
The automatic password changer that updates credentials on supported sites without you visiting each one individually saves hours. Not all sites supported but the ones that work are magical.
Killed the desktop app
Moving to browser-only and removing the desktop application was a frustrating decision. Sometimes I need to access passwords outside the browser. Web-only feels limiting.
Beautiful interface design
Dashlane is the best-looking password manager on the market. The UI is clean, modern, and intuitive. If design matters to you alongside security, Dashlane delivers.
Free tier is too limited
Only 25 passwords on free. That's barely enough for one person. Bitwarden offers unlimited for free. Dashlane's free tier feels like a demo, not a real product.
Phishing alerts are proactive
Dashlane warns you when you're about to enter credentials on a suspicious site that looks like a known login page. The anti-phishing protection adds a real security layer.
Secure sharing works smoothly
Sharing individual passwords or notes with family members without revealing the actual password text is well implemented. They can use it without seeing it.
Autofill is solid but not best in class
The autofill works well most of the time but occasionally misses fields or fills the wrong form. 1Password handles edge cases better. Dashlane is good enough though.
Password health score motivates you
Seeing a security score that improves as you fix weak and reused passwords is gamification done right. Got my score from 42 to 91 over a weekend. Satisfying.
Import from Chrome was easy
Importing Chrome saved passwords took one CSV export and import. Everything came through correctly. Initial setup was painless which matters for adoption.
Business tier is well designed
The business version with admin console, group policies, and SSO integration is enterprise-ready. Our company of 50 found it easier to deploy than 1Password Business.
Receipt and ID storage
Storing IDs, receipts, and payment methods alongside passwords is convenient. One secure place for all personal data. The document storage makes it more than just a password manager.
Genuinely good onboarding
The setup wizard that walks you through importing, installing extensions, and enabling autofill is the best in the category. Makes a potentially confusing setup process smooth.
VPN speed is mediocre
The included VPN handles browsing but don't expect streaming or gaming quality speeds. It's a bonus feature that performs like a bonus feature. For serious VPN use, get a dedicated one.
Breach notifications are timely
Got notified about a breach affecting one of my accounts within 24 hours of it being public. Quick alerts give you time to change passwords before they're exploited.
Family plan covers 10 people
The family plan at $7.50/month for up to 10 members is actually competitive. Larger families get good per-person value compared to 1Password's 5-person limit.
Sync can be slow sometimes
Changes made on one device sometimes take minutes to appear on another. For a cloud-based manager, sync should be instant. Not a huge deal but noticeable.
Premium features justify the cost for some
If you'd pay separately for a VPN and dark web monitoring, Dashlane's bundle actually saves money. The value depends on whether you'd use those extras or just need passwords.
