Transformed my commute
I consume 2-3 books per month now that would have been impossible without audiobooks. My commute went from wasted time to productive learning. Life changing.
Narrators make or break it
A great narrator elevates a book beyond the text. The talent Audible attracts is impressive. Some performances are genuine works of art.
Expensive per book
Without credits, audiobooks cost $20-40 each. Even with the credit subscription at $14.95/month for one book, its pricey compared to ebook prices.
Whispersync between reading and listening
Switching between reading on Kindle and listening on Audible at the exact same point is magical. Read at home, listen in the car, seamlessly.
Plus catalog is growing
The included Plus catalog with thousands of free titles is a great addition. So much content included beyond the monthly credit. Increasing value.
Try to cancel and theyll beg
Tried to cancel and went through 3 screens of retention offers. Just let me cancel easily. The dark pattern retention flow is frustrating.
Sleep timer is essential
The sleep timer for listening in bed is perfect. Set 30 minutes and drift off without losing your place. Audible bookmarks where you fell asleep.
Speed control for dense books
Listening at 1.5x or 2x speed for dense non-fiction saves time. The speed control is smooth without making narrators sound like chipmunks.
DRM frustration
Bought audiobooks but cant play them outside Audibles app. If I switch to a competitor, decades of purchases are locked away. DRM limits ownership.
Library keeps growing
My Audible library has 200+ titles collected over years. Its a personal library of knowledge and stories always in my pocket. Priceless collection.
Originals are surprisingly good
Audible Originals (audio-only content) are surprisingly high quality. Full-cast productions, celebrity narrators, and exclusive content. Worth exploring.
Great for exercising
Audiobooks during workouts make exercise time productive. An hour on the treadmill goes fast when immersed in a good story. Fitness meets learning.
Credits accumulate confusingly
The credit system with rollover, extra credits, and different plans is confusing. Simplify the billing and credit structure.
Return policy is generous
The ability to return audiobooks you dont enjoy is generous. Tried a book with a narrator I didnt like, returned it, got my credit back. Fair policy.
Kids audiobooks are wonderful
Audible for kids during long car trips is a sanity saver. Harry Potter narrated by Stephen Fry kept my kids engaged for hours. Worth it for parents alone.
Competition from Libby
Library audiobooks through Libby are free. Audible is better for selection and availability but Libby is free. Hard to justify paying when free exists.
Career development tool
Listening to business and self-development books during commute has measurably improved my career. The knowledge accumulated through audiobooks is invaluable.
Podcast inclusion adds value
Audible original podcasts included with membership are a nice bonus. Some exclusive podcast content thats genuinely worth listening to.
Bookmark and clip features
Bookmarking important passages and clipping audio segments for reference is useful for non-fiction. The note-taking features support active listening.
Worth it for heavy listeners
If you listen to 2+ books per month, Audible is excellent value with credits. For occasional listeners, the free Libby alternative might suffice.
