Simple and does the job
Not trying to be everything to everyone. Any.do is a clean, simple to-do list with calendar integration. For people who just want to track tasks without complexity, it works.
Free version is too limited
The free tier barely lets you do anything useful. Recurring tasks, color tags, and location reminders are all behind the paywall. For what you get, the premium price feels high.
Daily planner is a nice touch
The "Plan My Day" feature that pops up each morning helps me review and prioritize. It forces me to think about what matters today rather than being overwhelmed by the full list.
Sync problems between devices
Tasks I add on my phone don't always show up on the web version right away. Had a few instances where completed tasks reappeared. Sync reliability needs improvement.
Good for non-tech people
Recommended this to my mom and she figured it out immediately. No learning curve, no confusing features. Just add tasks and check them off. Sometimes simple is what you need.
Too basic for the price
At $6/month, Any.do Premium offers less than what Todoist or TickTick offer at similar prices. No Kanban view, limited integrations, basic reporting. Hard to justify.
Whatsapp integration is clever
Being able to add tasks through WhatsApp is actually really handy. Send a message to Any.do bot and it becomes a task. Great for when you're already in a chat.
Widgets are just okay
The home screen widgets exist but are basic. Just a list of tasks, no colors or priority indicators. Other apps have much better widgets for at-a-glance task viewing.
Calendar view works well
Having tasks and calendar events in one view is useful. I can see my schedule alongside my to-do list. The integration with Google Calendar is smooth.
Nothing special anymore
When Any.do launched it was one of the best designed to-do apps. Now everyone has caught up and Any.do hasn't innovated much. It feels stuck in 2018 feature-wise.
Grocery list feature is handy
The shared grocery list with my partner works great. We both add items and can check them off while shopping. Simple feature but we use it every week.
Notifications are unreliable
Set a reminder for 9am and it might come at 9:15 or not at all. For a task app, reliable notifications are essential. This has caused me to miss deadlines.
Good looking app
The UI design is clean and pleasant. Adding tasks is quick, organizing into lists is intuitive. It's a good looking app that's enjoyable to use daily.
Sub-tasks are limited
You can add sub-tasks but can't nest them deeper than one level. For complex projects with multiple layers of sub-tasks, you'll need a different app.
Location-based reminders work
"Remind me to buy milk when I'm near the grocery store" - this actually works well with the premium plan. The geofencing is accurate and timely.
Customer support is slow
Reported a bug with sync 3 weeks ago and still no response. For a paid app, the customer support turnaround time is unacceptable.
Works well with Alexa
The Alexa integration lets me add tasks by voice. "Alexa, add buy milk to my Any.do list." Works consistently and the task shows up immediately in the app.
Gets the basics right
Any.do is a competent basic task manager. It won't blow you away but it won't frustrate you either. If you need more than basics though, look elsewhere.
Moment feature helps prioritize
The "Moment" daily review prompt helps me prioritize and plan. It's a small thing but it makes a difference in starting the day focused.
Okay but not outstanding
Three stars because it's a perfectly adequate task manager. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing that makes me recommend it over Todoist or TickTick either. It just... exists.
