Free vs paid content is confusing
Half the time I click on something its not included with Prime - it costs extra. The mixing of free and paid content in search results is deliberately confusing.
Great value with Prime
Considering Prime Video is basically free with an Amazon Prime shipping membership, the value is incredible. The originals alone justify it as a bonus.
Ads on a paid service is wrong
Adding ads to Prime Video after years of ad-free viewing is a betrayal. We already pay for Prime. Charging extra to remove ads is double-dipping.
Rings of Power was epic
The Lord of the Rings show is the most ambitious streaming production ever. The production value is theatrical quality. Amazon is investing seriously in content.
UI is the worst of major streamers
The interface is cluttered, confusing, and slow. Finding content is an exercise in frustration. Every other streamer has a better UI than Prime Video.
X-Ray is brilliant
The X-Ray feature showing actors and trivia while watching is unique and genuinely useful. "Whos that actor?" - X-Ray tells you instantly. Brilliant feature.
Sports content is growing
Thursday Night Football and other sports content add significant value. Amazons sports streaming quality is excellent. A growing strength.
Channel subscriptions are cluttered
The add-on channel subscriptions (Paramount+, Starz, etc.) clutter the interface. I dont want to subscribe to more services through Amazon.
The Boys is amazing
The Boys, Invincible, Jack Ryan, Reacher - Amazon has some genuinely excellent originals. The superhero deconstruction genre is well served.
Download restrictions are annoying
Download limits and expiration on downloaded content are more restrictive than Netflix. Let me keep downloaded content as long as I maintain my subscription.
Rental library is massive
If something isnt on any streaming service, Prime Video probably has it to rent for $3-5. The backup rental/purchase library fills every gap.
Subtitle options need work
Subtitle customization is limited and the default subtitle style can be hard to read. Netflix handles subtitles much better across the board.
Watch Party is fun
Watching with friends remotely through Watch Party is a fun feature. The chat alongside the video makes it social. Good pandemic-era feature that stuck.
Recommendation algorithm is poor
Prime Video recommendations are terrible compared to Netflix. Constantly suggests things Ive already watched or would never watch. Algorithm needs work.
Global content is expanding
Indian, British, and European content on Prime is expanding nicely. Mirzapur, Clarkson, and European thrillers add international flavor.
Quality is inconsistent
Amazons originals range from excellent (The Boys) to forgettable. The hit rate is lower than HBO or even Netflix. More consistent quality control needed.
Live event streaming improving
Fashion shows, concerts, and sporting events streamed live through Prime are a unique offering. The live event strategy differentiates from other streamers.
Bundled value is the main draw
If I had to pay for Prime Video separately Id probably cancel. The value comes from it being part of the Prime shipping bundle. A nice bonus, not a standalone.
Freevee content is decent free stuff
The ad-supported Freevee content adds movies and shows at no extra cost. Some hidden gems in there for people who dont mind ads.
Needs a complete redesign
The app needs a ground-up redesign. Every other streaming app is more intuitive and pleasant to use. Amazons UI expertise from shopping doesnt translate to entertainment.
